International Relations (IR) is sometimes also called World Affairs or
Global Politics. IR looks at the relationships between states and other actors
on the world stage. It looks at how the relations between these actors function
and affect societies. This paper will provide students with a number of theories to understand and analyse
IR in current or past events. It will provide students with an overview of
the history of IR. As a multi-disciplinary subject, it is therefore expected
that students will acquire a good general knowledge. The focus of this
paper will be on “Globalization”, as it is one of the issues students can
experience in their daily life. IR is a specialization at the undergraduate
level and a specific programme leading to a diploma or masters degree at the
graduate level. Studying IR, may prepare students for careers in government,
diplomacy, trade or humanitarian work.
