The basic purpose of this course is to provide a historical, linguistic and culture perspectives on that which differentiates major western countries from China in order to aid in the process of assimilation and adjustment for Freshmen planning to study aboard. This course will lay particular emphasis on Australian culture for class # 2017-10 who intend to transfer to the AU in two years time. The roots of Western Ideals in the Greeks, Athenian democracy and an overview of literature and film shall be included. Students should gain basic geographic knowledge of major provinces and urban areas of Australia as well as the history of the nation from its founding in 18th century following the exploration of Captain Cook.
