This writing course is designed for students of Foundation Programs who are required to have a threshold IELTS score of 6 or 6.5 for their overseas university application.

The purpose of this course is to help the students develop the English writing skills they need to deal effectively with the written element of the IELTS test and their future academic study, as well as to develop other important skills such as critical thinking and reasoning methods. This writing course will also deal with other important aspects of writing known as micro-skills which include how to write an effective introduction and conclusion, how to communicate the main idea of a paragraph to the reader, how to support the main ideas with different types of evidence, how to make clear expression by using more complex sentences, how to write accurately and fluently using language appropriate to the task, etc.

As an IELTs oriented writing course, this course includes different genres required in the test such as different expositive graph description and argumentative essay writing. The genres included are as follows:

* Graphs and tables: line chart, pie chart, bar chart, map, flow chart, table, etc.;

* Argumentative essay: argument and refutation, cause and effect, comparison and contrast, problem and solution, etc.
