选课选项

This course covers the basic survival skills in a broad social and educational context, as well as the skills required for academic purposes. It aims at giving students proper training in basic listening skills and preparing them for the taking IELTS test.

The course objectives are to:

  • teach students effective listening skills;
  • encourage students to draw on their own natural listening strategies and to apply them effectively in their language learning context;

  • develop their ability to understand real-life spoken English and academic English;

  • give students intensive training on IELTS listening test.


By completing the course, students should be able to:

  • distinguish similar sounds and spell a word correctly;
  • identify and take down numbers (e.g. dates, hours, etc.);

  • identify speaker roles and follow directions and instructions;

  • grasp the gist of a conversation or a monologue;

  • extract specific information and make inferences;

  • distinguish facts from assumptions and opinions;

take notes effectively and answer questions correctly.
